- Mountain Lion Encounter is a Good Reminder to Be Wildlife-AwarePosted on: 2007-09-28Time to remind you that bear and mountain lion are out and about. If you hunt, follow the suggestions in this press release. Bowhunting season began last weekend and continues through rifle season, which starts in late October. If you hike on Blue Mountain Recreation Area or other wilderness areas in the Missoula area, follow these suggestions. Be sure to keep your garage doors closed and remove any food temptations from around your house. If you have fruit on trees, remove the fruit as much as possible. We do have a large population of deer living in our neighborhood right now so do not be surprised if you see mountain lion that love to hunt them at night. Keep your cats and dogs inside or within eyesight of you at all times.
Enjoy our wildlife from a distance and be safe. If you have further questions, please call the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks department shown below.
Also, keep those cards coming to Kerry Dewey. She appreciates hearing from you but phone calls should be kept to a minimum. Her address is 7315 Beryl Lane. You can put a card in the yellow Missoulian box.

- Deer crossing Hayes Creek Road and other streets -- one fawn deadPosted on: 2007-10-03A large number of deer have made our neighborhood their home this fall so be careful when driving down Hayes Creek Road and around our side roads. A fawn was killed yesterday as it crossed at the property for sale at 7150 Hayes Creek Road. I found it dead on the side of the road. From the Lund's property at 5650 Hayes Creek Road to the bottom of the hill at 6015 Hayes Creek Road many deer are running across the road throughout the day and night. A doe and another fawn cross there all the time and jump out suddenly. A doe weighs more than 150 pounds so will do a lot of damage to your car or truck, not to mention the fact it will die a painful death. Another crossing point is between 5425 and 5455 Skyway Drive. They are eating fruit on trees and running back and forth to the big meadow. I don't remember seeing so many deer living in our neighborhood until this year.
Keep your eyes open and watch out.
